Today Successful Gardiner hosted a webinar on affordable housing with Randy Carpenter from Future West, Brian Guyer, Community Development Manager of Human Resources Development Council in Bozeman, and Marjo Curgus of Del Corazon Consulting. If you missed it, you can listen and view it here.
The discussion covered:
the current trends of housing prices in Gardiner, the strategies outlined in the Gardiner Housing Action Plan, case studies of other communities around Montana, and;
strategies for addressing short term rentals.
There were some really good questions asked during the discussion including:
How does a governance structure make a difference in what funding would be available for addressing housing?
What funds are available to municipalities and/or counties for housing?
Can Gardiner implement a licensing program for short term rentals now?
What are the unintended consequences of owner occupied short term rental restrictions?
What can an unincorporated community do to take action on affordable housing?

Successful Gardiner Action Planning Workshop
Also, SAVE THE DATE. Successful Gardiner has completed most of the community input process. We have scheduled May 7th and 9th, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. as Successful Gardiner Workshop as a 2 evening action planning event. We are looking forward to a fun and productive event. A community dinner will be served at 5:30 with discussion starting at 6:00. We would like to have childcare available if you can recommend some babysitters (paid of course!). More to come!
